Blanket Policies In Oz

So, there I was, brooding with my early morning cup of coffee as I listened to the news on Japan.  To add to their misery and fears, snow was coming and people were freezing...Memories of Lakimpur days in India. It's no fun when the icicles are part of the furniture.
My best ideas come steaming through in the shower. The irony of the warmth floating around me was not lost, but a light lit in my previously fuddled brain.  BLANKETS.  Simple and elegant solution.
What is more versatile in an emergency than a blanket. It offers warmth,  can become clothing and even, a tent.  A simple square of universal comfort and hope.

Ok.  Idea now action.  With the help of several like-minded ladies we went into action.  In two days, we have created collection centres, trucks  and volunteers.  We called out, and the people of Queensland, recovering from their own tragedies, put out their hands and opened their hearts.  We have blankets, warm clothes and love pouring in.

We then called on the major organizations to help us organize delivery of same, by this weekend. And hit a wall.  A brick wall of policy, economics and cold beaurcracy.  Policies dictating the collection of monies only, and non-delivery of goods to other countries.  Of warehouses still full of undelivered collected items for Queensland flood victims.  A wall of greed and care-less from organizations that world-wide are the calling card of charity and aid.

This morning, we sit here, coffees in hand, in  fog of disbelief as we watch the news and stare at our piles of blankets.  We are blanketed by their and our misery.  They need our blankets and hope, we need an airplane.
Like them, we are not giving up.....

"It's Only Impossible Until Someone Does IT"

So, out there in the world. we need an airplane to deliver blankets from Cairns, Australia to Japan....Let's Do it!  Let's create a new policy- Humanity.
