VINTAGE WTF?
It's Not Vintage- It's Expensive Crap
I have a love/hate relationship with the newest version of English. Language, as I know it, is a living, mutable "thing". Like humans it jumps around seeking to evolve into something, theoretically, better. To communicate. As a species, we spent have a few thousand years honing it in from grunts and howls to a Shakespearean shine. Tuning and embellishing it to an art form. A visual and mental circus dazzling us to thoughts beyond our own limited realms.
That was then. This is now. An entire vocabulary of words has not merely fallen to the wayside of disuse, but been viciously kicked and mangled to the "corrective" curb. This is not evolution or revolution. It's an indifferent dissolution from debate. No awful majesty, just awful. What ever happened to the happiness that went with being "gay" ( oh yes, unravel that clue -"clew" however you like). Or, a rainbow just being a bloody rainbow for it's own sake. I miss old fashioned politically neutral rainbows..
My pet peeve though really is, Vintage. Really People? WTF! VINTAGE. Marry that one with RETRO and the price tag has babies. Vintage clothing stores are creeping across the city, disguising themselves under the banner of "Eco-shopping". Put that in a Bento Box and ship it with a few hundred carbon footprints.. Strolled into the neighborhood vintage shop for a spontaneous winter sweater. It was cold. I left still shivering, additionally, this time, from sticker shock. Holy Mother of God and shit. I kid you not, $200 for a ratty excuse of last years H&M. Shed the shine of new; tatty, tarnished and badly Used is vintage fashion. That's not "Eco-economy" that's just plain stupid.
Consumerism is consumerism. As long as consumers pay the price tag. We all pay the price. Thrift shops sell used clothes and "used" to be for people who couldn't afford new or, were being "thrifty".
So, where do they go and shop now?
Inquiring minds want to know...
Which leads me to another abused tag. Affordable housing. Can we just dump that BS to the BIH bin? Here's a twisted thought - Housing that is affordable. As in real equity, for everyone. What a concept. All turned around by a simple rephrasing. Words, people WORDS.
Small wonder conversation itself has been degraded to emojis and "likes". No commitment required. Am personally not ROFL about any of it. More of a continuing WTF? and, SMH, it's just 2M2H sometimes. What kind of QSO is this anyway? It can be SAVAGE to any form of actual thought or expression. It's all SATS and SBT's if you felt a need to spell it out.
So, if we are going to think Vintage, and Retro, you might have to dig around the attic for a vintage thing called a dictionary. It's a retro tool called a book. Really awesome stuff for when the electric grid fails. Hey California, how's it going with the lights out? . I don't care if you don't Like it or just have your BIC with nothing else to do, let's talk about it.
Coffee is hot and it's fresh, not Vintage..
